Producing Hardcover book Steps
(1) Book block processing
The binding process of the first part of the book block production is the same as that of the paperback book, including: cutting, folding, matching, sewing and cutting, etc. After completing the above process, we need to carry out the hardcover book block processing process. The book block is in the form of round back and ridge, and the hardcover book block can be processed by flattening, brushing, drying, cutting, rounding, ridging, brushing, sticking gauze, re brushing, sticking plug cloth, sticking spine paper, drying, etc. on the basis of paperback book block. The book block is in the form of square back without ridge, so it doesn't need to be rounded. The book block is in the form of a round back without ridges, so there is no need for ridges.
Flattening: flattening is carried out on a special book press to make the book block strong and flat, and improve the binding quality of books.
Glue brushing: use manual or mechanical glue brushing to make the book block reach the basic shape. During the next process, the book posts will not move each other.
Cutting: the book block with basically dry glue brush is cut to become a light book block.
Rounding: the process of manually or mechanically processing the spine and back of the book into a circular arc, which is called rounding. After rounding, the book stickers of the whole book can be staggered with each other, which is easy to read and improves the firmness of the book block.
Ridging: manually or mechanically, clamp the book block with a splint to tighten it, and press out a dent on the front and back sides of the book block, close to the edge of the line between the book ridge and the ring lining, so that the book ridge bulges slightly outward, which is called ridging, so as to prevent the back round deformation of the book block after rounding.
Spine processing: including brushing glue, pasting bookmark tape, pasting gauze, pasting plug cloth, and pasting spine paper. Sticking gauze can increase the connection strength of the book block and the connection strength between the book block and the book case. The plug cloth is pasted on both ends of the crown and foot of the back of the book block, so that the books are closely connected, which not only increases the firmness of the book binding, but also makes the book beautiful. The spine paper shall be pasted in the middle of the back of the book block and shall not wrinkle or blister.
(2) Making of book case
The book case is the cover of a hardcover book. The material of the book case should have certain strength and wear resistance, and have the function of decoration. A book case made of a whole piece of fabric, which connects the cover, back cover and spine together, is called a whole book case. The cover and back cover are made of the same fabric, while the back is made of another fabric, which is called the batched case.
When making a book case, first cut the cover material according to the specified size and brush the glue, then compact and position the front and rear sealing cardboard (called swing case), wrap the edges and corners, and press flat to complete the production of the book case. Due to the low efficiency of manual operation, mechanical book covers are now used. The title and pattern of the book are stamped on the front and back seals and the back of the book. In order to adapt to the arc shape of the back of the book, the book case needs to be rounded after finishing.
(3) Upper case
The technological process of connecting the book case and the book block together is called the upper book case, also known as the sleeve case.
The method of putting on the book case is: first, apply glue to the lining page on one side of the book block, and then put it on the book case according to a certain position, so that the book block and the book case are firmly adhered to one side first, and then the lining page on the other side of the book block is also smoothly adhered to the book case according to this method, and the whole book block and the book case are firmly connected. After that, press a groove on the front and rear edges of the book with a crimping and ridging machine, press and dry it to make the book more flat and shaped. If there is a protective cover, the protective cover on the package can leave the factory.
