Comparison between Standard Sharp-Edged Doctor Blade and Section-Type Doctor Blade

There are two types of doctor blades: standard sharp-edged doctor blades and section-type doctor blades. The section-type doctor blade is more commonly used.

The section-type doctor blade has a longer service life. Because the contact angle between the blade and the roller is very precise, the ink scraping is accurate. Although the blade wears down during the printing process, the contact area remains consistent along the entire length of the blade. As a result, the tone of the printed image does not change.

The standard sharp-edged doctor blade has a limited service life. Since the standard blade has a pre-ground edge, only the edge of the blade contacts the printing roller. As the blade wears down, the contact area increases, which negatively affects the ink scraping, leading to changes in the tone of the printed image. In such cases, to ensure consistency in the printed materials, the doctor blade must be continuously adjusted.
